Kathy long is widely considered to be one of the greatest female fighters of all time. Born on April 21, 1964, in Saint Louis Missouri, Kathy's family moved to California when she was 6 months old.
Long started training in Aikido 1979 . Earning the rank of Shodan, Kathy then branched out and continued her training in Kung Fu San Soo in 1981, eventually earning the rank of 8th Master degree... Always wanting to continue her knowledge she has become proficient in BJJ, Catch wrestling, and Wing Chun, JKD, Kali with Cas Magda and many other instructors and has taught at the Inosanto Academy for 9 years. Kathy's first kickboxing bout in 1987 happened after accepting a challenge with only 10 days of training to learn how. Kathy was instantly hooked on the sport and began learning everything possible concerning Kickboxing..
Long began her professional kickboxing career in 1989 and quickly established herself as one of the top fighters in the sport. Earning 5 World titles throughout her career in the following organizations;, WKA, ISKA, and WMAC and KICK. Long was known for her technical proficiency, speed, and power, as well as her aggressive fighting style.
In addition to kickboxing, Long also competed professionally in MMA, Boxing, and Muay Thai compiling a combined record of 42 wins and only 2 loses. Kathy Long color commentated the First UFC in 1993.
Long retired from fighting in 2016 at the age of 52 but has remained involved in the martial arts community as a trainer and coach. Kathy has been traveling and teaching seminars all over the world.
Long is also known for her work as an actress, choreography and as a stuntwoman. The first film Kathy worked on was doubling, choreographing and training Michelle Phiffer in "Batman Returns" she has also appeared in several other films and television shows, including, but not limited to, "Natural Born Killers", "Death Becomes Her" "The Stranger" "Walker, Texas Ranger." "Knights" and others.. She has also worked as a stunt coordinator on various productions.
Throughout her career, Long has received numerous awards and honors, and has been on the cover of numerous Martial Arts Magazines including Black Belt Magazine, Inside Kung Fu, Inside Karate to name a few..Long has also been featured in Sports Illustrated magazine and has been inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame and numerous others including, Inside Karate and Inside Kung Fu Hall of Fame in 1996 and the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame and many others . Recently presented with The lifetime achievement award by The Pacific Association of Women Martial Artists, Kathy Long's contributions to the world of martial arts have been significant, and she is widely respected and admired by her peers and fans alike. Her technical proficiency, fighting spirit, and dedication to the sport have inspired countless people to pursue martial arts and to achieve their own goals.
